Description
The idea of advancing something on behalf of something else informs the definition of Fidya. It is a donation made by those who are unable to fast during Ramadan because of advanced age, poor health, certain medical conditions, or pregnancy.
How do I calculate ?
Both Fidya and Kaffara donations are calculated as being equal to the cost of one meal for two people, or two meals for one person, and are intended to provide food for a person in need for each of the fasting days missed. This amounts to $10 every day.
This sum is based on the typical price of a supper for one in Canada. It is acceptable to raise the price if you believe you spend more money per meal.
Fidya can be calculated for any number of separate days or for a full month at a cost of $300. In addition, if possible, one should make up any missed fasts by fasting for the equivalent number of days the following month.
